In a private lodge in Abisko, Lapland, IFMGA mountain guides, experts and skiers meet. We go on ski touring trips, test new products and eat well. There is a level for everyone, from beginners to advanced and each day offers a variety of selected mountains. Whether you are experienced or curious – let the adventure begin.
Pure Ski Touring Camp is an Events trip with first-class accommodation, a sauna for relaxation and a restaurant serving local produce. We also have a test center where skis and other equipment can be borrowed. Every day we offer ski touring tours with different degrees of difficulty. Our staff is always available at the lodge to offer the best possible service and we also have a Pure Store with selected products. In the evenings, interesting lectures are organized with invited lecturers, brands and partners.
Ski tours for everyone, from beginner to advanced
Abisko, known as Ábeskovvu in the indigenous North Sami language, is a small hamlet in the north of Sweden, north of the arctic circle. It is situated adjacent to the lake Torneträsk and is known for its scenic views of Lapporten with the peaks Tjuonatjåkka and Nissuntjårro, 1,540 m asl and 1,721 m asl respectively. This location also offers opportunities for us to drive westwards in our minibuses to go ski touring on the Norwegian side in the spectacular Ofoten and Narvik alps. The Norwegian areas at our disposal are characterised by steep mountains rising directly from the fjords with high, jagged peaks reaching up to 1,900 m asl. A magic place!
The skiing on offer in northern Sweden and Norway is some of the most beautiful going and our chances of finding untouched snow are most excellent regardless of which mountain and how steep a slope we pick. We have four ski touring days, and depending on group and level we’ll cover between 400 and 1,200 vertical meters per day. No matter what level of ski touring experience you have, there will be a group suitable for you.

Christian Edelstam
Christian Edelstam is an IFMGA-certified mountain guide and Pure Ski Touring’s head guide. Christian lives in Abisko in the north of Sweden, and also teaches avalanche safety, a climbing instructor, member of the Abisko ski patrol, glaciologist and product tester for Tierra. After more than 10 years’ experience guiding at the Kebnekaise and Abisko mountain stations he now runs his own guiding company. Since a year back, Christian only guides in mountains reachable without flying.
He is driven by a genuine joy for adventure and discovery — everything from finding out what the snow’s like on the other side of the ridge, to opening new alpine climbing routes in high mountains. The best part of guiding is to get to share the joy with the guests! Christian has been working with Pure Ski Touring since 2010, and guided for us in Japan, Lyngen, Senja, Tarfala, Dolomites, Pyrenees, Iceland, Andermatt, Haute Route, Urner, Jotunheimen, Sunnmøre and on Svalbard.
Dick Johansson
Dick Johansson is an IFMGA-certified mountain guide from the first batch of qualified Swedish guides. Dick, together with his wife, manages Abisko Mountain Lodge, at Abisko Östra. Dick is possessed by the mountains and spends as much time as possible outside, summer and winter time. Dick has worked with Pure Ski Touring since its inception in 2009 and has guided for us in Senja and Abisko.
Josef Westerlund
Josef Westerlund is an IFMGA-certified mountain guide and has worked professionally in mountaineering and skiing since the early 2000s. Josef is based with his family in Finland, and he spends most of both summer and winter seasons in the mountains around the world.
Josef enjoys northern Scandinavia more than anything else. Nothing beats ski touring in good conditions in northern Sweden or Norway, he says. In addition to his guiding, Josef also works as one of the educators on the two-year Finnish outdoor pursuits course Outdoor Academy. Josef has worked with Pure Ski Touring since 2014 and has guided for us in Lyngen and Abisko.
Peter “CalleP” Engström
Peter “CalleP” Engström is a certified IFMGA mountain guide, and member of the Swedish mountain rescue team. CalleP lives in Kiruna, in the north of Sweden, and has ski toured in the Kebnekaise, Abisko and Narvik alpine ranges for more than 25 years – the last 15+ years as a certified mountain guide.
CalleP has worked with Pure Ski Touring since the beginning in 2009 and has guided for us in Lyngen, Tarfala and Abisko. Like many other guides, CalleP enjoys all the varied kinds of work that a professional mountain guide does, but ski touring is hard to beat, and is a firm winter favourite.
Oscar Wahlund
Oscar Wahlund is an IFMGA-certified mountain guide who loves the great outdoors. He feels the most at home climbing or skiing in the mountains than working in an office. Drawn to nature, he spends many nights a year under the stars, but also appreciates a cosy mountain hut.
Oscar can guide you climbing a long route in the Alps, climbing an icefall in Norway or ski touring under the Aurora Borealis in Sweden or Norway. He really subscribes to the idea that the best experiences are shared experiences and enjoys spending time with guests regardless of activity. Oscar has worked with Pure Ski Touring since 2013 and has guided for us in Georgia, Lyngen, Senja, Abisko, Sea to Summit and on Iceland.
Ulrika Asp
Ulrika grew up in the city of Karlskoga, and thanks to her father, a dedicated skier, she began her ski career in the Alps at the tender age of eight. During her college years, she financed her own skiing habit by arranging ski trips for her peers, and after graduation she spent her first full winter season in Chamonix. Ten years later she became the first Swedish woman to gain entry to ENSA (École National de Ski et d’Alpinisme). She graduated in 2006. Ulrika has worked with Pure Ski Touring since 2015, and has guided for us in Andermatt and Abisko. She now lives year-round in Chamonix, France.
David Nyberg
Abisko, Lappland, Northern Sweden
Abisko is situated north of the arctic circle, close to the Norwegian border. As a base for ski touring it’s close to optimal. We have a huge selection of peaks to choose from on either side of the border, catering for all levels of experience and skills, beginner to advanced.
Accommodation
During the event, we’re based at the cosy Abisko Mountain Lodge, in Abisko. We’ve taken over the whole lodge for the duration! It’s 100% ski touring focus from the test centre to the lounge, via the sauna and all the way to the restaurant and the sun deck. The lodge is on the edge of Abisko itself, with a scenic view of Lapporten. The lodge is a focal point for skiers near and far between February and May, and many tall stories have been shared in its lounge. It’s a perfect base for our ski touring event in March.
Travel
Travelling to Pure Freeride Camp is easy and convenient. You have several options: rail, air or road. Regardless of your chosen mode of transport, you get to enjoy the same number of ski days. You can also sort your own travel arrangements, and just join up at Abisko Mountain Lodge. If you drive or travel by bus, the E10 passes Abisko — exit for Abisko Östra.
Rail
If you choose to travel by rail, your journey starts in the evening from Stockholm C (note that the train journey starts the evening before the start of the event). You’ll board the northbound sleeper and arrive at Abisko Östra (the name of the station) the following day. From Abisko Östra station it’s a five min walk to the lodge. The homeward leg follows the same route. The sleeper departs in the afternoon, and you’ll arrive back in Stockholm the following morning.
Air
If you fly, you start at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. There are two departure options (see the itinerary below), and the duration of the flight to Kiruna Airport is about 2h30. From there we have arranged private bus transfers to Abisko Mountain Lodge. On the way back you take off Sunday evening from Kiruna, landing back at Arlanda late evening. We can also arrange flights from Gothenburg or Malmö, contact us on info@pureskitouring.se for further details.
